Wike Prohibits Street Trading – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has prohibited street trading within Abuja.

Wike ascribed the ban to his belief that individuals who engage in corn selling business and street hawking activities contribute to the insecurity and criminal occurrences in the nation’s capital.

Furthermore, He puplicly made this directive while sternly addressing the leadership teams of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

Wike Accuses Corn Sellers Of Fueling Crime

Minister Wike, who formerly served as the Rivers State governor, urged the team leaders to the needful. Wike went further by saying that “The important thing we must do is to ensure that Abuja is back to what it ought to be.

Just recently I moved around Abuja and I discovered there is total darkness in most of the places. Our responsibility is to ensure light comes back as soon as possible.

He also stated by saying “If you are in charge of sanitation, will call you at any time of the day and motor parks shouldn’t be allowed all over the place. Therefore, action need to be taken as soon as possible.

Therefore, If you cannot meet my standard, say it now so that we can change you,”. Wike also noted that even though times are hard, that should not be an excuse for lawlessness in the capital city.

According to Him, He said, People selling corn will drop their waste indiscriminately and thereby causing insecurity. Armed robbers come to buy and use the opportunity to spy and give information to law breakers. It is imperative we clear street hawkers.

Wike Warns People who are deforming the master plan of Abuja

Furthermore, “Development control is a serious crisis area, we have to stop. Meanwhile, I noticed there are allot of illegal structures and shanties everywhere. We are going to dismantle any illegal structure. Not minding how highly placed, the structure will come down.”

He bitterly stated “People who are deforming the master plan of Abuja, too bad Refuse everywhere. What are the refuse collection team doing? After been paid. Does it mean, we must also sit down to look at different means of waste disposal.

All those people deforming the master plan of the nation’s Capital, too bad.  Also anyone who built where you are not supposed to build, it will go down, regardless of you personality.

He also stated that anyone who have developed where you are not supposed to develop your house must go down. However, Those who have taken over the green area to build, sorry the green area must come back.

Therefore, If you know you have anybody who is involved, anyone that has taken over the green areas and the parks to restaurants, we won’t accept that. He also rendered an apology, to anyone who maybe directly involved.
